Parliament of Kyrgyzstan passes bill allowing to direct saved $15 million of Islamic Development Bank for COVID-19 response

AKIPRESS.COM - The Parliament of Kyrgyzstan passed the bill on ratification of the agreement with the Islamic Devleopment Bank and amendments to the financing agreement in connection with COVID-19 in 3 readings on June 25. The Islamic Devleopment Bank will provide funding to enhance preparedness of health care system of Kyrgyzstan to effectively and flexibly respond to COVID-19 pandemic.
The government of Kyrgyzstan asked the Islamic Development Bank earlier to finance the expenditures for COVID-19 response and proposed to the Bank to use the saved money to finance the expenditures related to COVID-10 pandemic response.
The Islamic Development Bank will allocate saved $15 million to finance strategic preparedness program.
The funds will be spent for increase of capacity of health care system, enhancement of prepareness of health care system with minimization of risks for medical personnel and patients with COVID-19.
Particularly, the program will support expansion of scale of screening and testing of suspected COVID-19 cases, their contacts, medical personal contacting the infected in priority in locations. The premises for 10 laboratories in the regions will be prepared. Laboratory equipment, consumable materials, vehicles will be purchased.
Personal protective items, face shields among them, essential medical equipment and supplies, ambulance cars will be purchased for medical facilities of the country.
