AKIPRESS.COM - Two-headed child was born in Samarkand. The parents knew about possible conjoined twins, reports Kun.uz. According to head doctor of regional medical centre Dilshod Rakhmonov, the child is in intensive care now. The analyses were taken. The child has double number of internal organs, one genital organ and two heads.
"This abnormality is rare in the world: one per 200,000-220,000 children. These children can lead a long life, sometimes they live till 30-50 years. But our case is more difficult, as two bodies conjoined into one body. The general condition of a child is not bad, doctors attend to the little patient. Feeding, blood flow is normal, the child has only oxygen deficiency. In future we will undertake all the measures to preserve child's life," Rakhmonov said.
According to doctors, before the child's birth the mother made screening twice during 16-21 weeks. The experts knew about the abnormal development and warned parents about conjoined twins. Parents however decided to keep a child. During delivery doctors made caesarean section.
Now the child's mother remains in maternity hospital under medical observation.
"This situation could occur due to several factors. For example, marriage between relatives, delivery after the end of mother's fertility age, radiation, ecological disbalances," the doctor explains.
The doctors say that they haven't had such cases before. They're planning to consult both specialists in Uzbekistan and in countries with developed medicine.
