AKIPRESS.COM - The Ministry of Health of Kazakhstan proposes lockdown from 2 to 4 weeks to stabilize epidemiological situation and to break the chain of COVID-19 transmission.
Newly appointed Health Minister Alexey Tsoy during the video conference led by President Kasym-Jomart Tokayev yesterday said "the preventive actions of the government and coordinated prompt reaction allowed to avoid explosive nature of spread of coronavirus infection at early stages of the pandemic" and "today Kazakhstan has not high morality rate compared to other countries."
"However, during the quarantine, people have not developed skills of epidemiological vigilance, social distancing and after loosening of quarantine restrictions the infection began spreading locally in big cities and region centers with active external and internal migration of population. The time has come to reinstate measures," the Health Minister said, vlast.kz reported.
The Health Minister proposed lockdown from 2 to 4 weeks.
Without lockdown, the country may record up to 27,000 new COVID-19 cases by September 1. In case of 2-week lockdown, 7,000 new cases are projected, in case of 4-week lockdown - 2,500 new cases are forecast.
The Health Ministry suggests reinstatement of the lockdown since July 3.
