Mongolia to stimulate domestic tourism via mobile app during coronavirus pandemic

AKIPRESS.COM - Touris sector in Mongolia suffers from significant slump of demand because of coronavirus pandemic. Tourism in Mongolia lost more than $120 million during the first 5 months in 2020.
Tourism made up 7.2% of GDP, 88,000 people were working there in 2019.
Mongolian government requested Minister of Nature, Environment and Tourism N. Tserenbat to organize measures to stimulate domestic tourism.
The flow of inner tourists has increased since last year. During that time the number of Mongolian tourists who visited other countries reached 2.4 million, the number of inner tourists - 1 million, Ministry of Nature, Environment and Tourism representative S. Bayasgalan said.
Private tour companies are undertaking measures to attract tourists. The app Feel Mongolia was created by IHOTEL and JOINME. It allows to find touris information, such as routes in 21 regions of Mongolia, book hotels and camps, buy items and services from travel companies. The app works on Android and iOS platforms.
Owner of JOINME.mn platform E. Tsomirlog noted that they have partnership with more than 50 professional travel companies and can provide clients with 100 tourist services, including online shipment and crediting.
"Tourists can book places of their final destination and make orders online. Now the number of people who use Feel Mongolia is growing. In July the books will grow," IHOTEL director B. Zolbadral said.
