Young women in Uzbekistan organize flashmob against sexism and abuse

AKIPRESS.COM - Women-members of online community Exponautz Art Gallery from Uzbekistan organized flashmob for the rights of women and against sexism and abuse.
Members of Exponautz Art Gallery posted photos on social networks and asked others to support their intiative.
"We are tired of sexism, misogyny, slutshaming, harassment, abuse, victimblaming, mansplaining, xenophobia. We are tired of being silent, suffer and think that it is okay, it will stop once. We do not want to feel scared, ashamed, to go into hiding and shut out. We just want to be ourselves and choose what to wear, do, think, speak. We decided to organize social project as flashmob dedicated to all the controversial topics in our country," members of community said in their post on Facebook.
Women on photos hold banners with texts "Woman is not animal!", "Young bride does not mean servant", "My body is my business!!!".
Participants of the flashmob had pictures taken near Uzbekistan hotel and People's Friendship Palace.
"Our aim is to draw society's attention to "little things" which shape our everyday life, to develop discussions and to stop being silent," organizers of the action noted.
Exponautz Art Gallery flashmob spread on social networking sites.
Blogger Umid Gafurov published photo session as the "answer" to the flashmob. The man is pictured holding banners with notes "If there's gender equality, you should carry around bricks", "Fulfill your duty of the young bride", "If you do not want to give birth, let your husband be married!".
The flashmob of Uzbekistan women happened because of the incident in Fergana. The girl in short pants was beaten up by a man in the city streets, and video of the incident was published in social networks. The police did not bring the abuser to court.
