AKIPRESS.COM - 3,000 Uzbek and Tajik nationals are stranded at the Kazakh-Uzbek border in Turkestan region, Tengrinews reports.
They remain near border checkpoint Jibek Joly and cannot return home, because Uzbekistan has closed the borders, region vice governor Saken Kalkamanov said.
"The Foreign Ministry and Embassy several times organized their transit. Some time ago 200-300 people were allowed to cross the border, most of them were women and children. We cannot do more. Region officials have already organized food delivery once a day. Volunteers and sponsors are helping, locals provide them water. 20 police officers stand guard at the border. The situation is under our control for now," he said.
Kalkamanov noted that region officials cannot test people for coronavirus now, so the police watch that people do not disperse.
