AKIPRESS.COM - The hospitals are filled with COVID-19 patients despite people with asymptomatic COVID-19 are allowed to stay home or at hotels to receive treatment, Prof. Habibulla Akilov, member of the operative team for coronavirus fight, told a press briefing today, Gazeta.uz reported. Due to repurposing of hospitals for treatment of patients with coronavirus infection, other patients with chronic conditions remain without treatment and die. There is no statistics on indirect COVID-19 victims yet, but this fact should not be ignored, he said.
The national health system will face collapse in case 1,000 COVID-19 cases are registered a day, he added.
Reinstatement of strict quarantine restrictions was proposed to avoid this brink. This is necessary to break the chain of transmission of the virus, Prof. Akilov stated.
"We asked 2 incubation periods initially - 28 days, but we were told it would be very hard for people. We managed to persuade the committee to reinstate quarantine for 20 days at least. If we do not undertake tough measures, the consequences may be tragic," Prof. Akilov underlined.
Strict quarantine restrictions will be reinstated in Uzbekistan since July 10.
