AKIPRESS.COM - To achieve reduction of epidemic, up to 80% of population need to get infected and recover from mild or moderate forms of COVID-19 and after formation of herd immunity the epidemic will start declining, Sagynbek Uezbaev, Chief of Communicable Diseases Prevention Department of the National Health Promotion Center said, when asked about reasons behind spike in coronavirus and pneumonia cases in Kyrgyzstan. Behaviour patterns contribute 50-65% to development of diseases. 20% are living conditions and ecology, 10 % are congenital reasons, he said.
"We can't change congenital reasons or ecology, but we may and must change our behavior patterns," he said.
"The current resurgence in cases has been caused by our behavior. Since the very beginning specialists asked people to maintain social distancing, to wear masks, to avoid public places, to stay home. If people had followed these recommendations, we would not have the crisis as now," he said.
"This is a novel virus and we have to undergo through this. To reduce epidemic, we need that up to 80% of people in the country caught mild or moderate forms of the virus and recovered and then after formation of the immunity the epidemic will decline. This is the law," he said.
