Turkmenistan, OSCE exchange views on national minorities

AKIPRESS.COM - Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov on Tuesday held an online meeting with OSCE High Commissioner on National Minorities Lamberto Zannier, Turkmen Foreign Ministry reports. The meeting participants discussed the main vectors of cooperation between Turkmenistan and OSCE with special accent made on the humanitarian aspect of joint activities. The participants underlined the adherence of the Turkmen side to the promotion of democratic values and practices, including within the OSCE platform.
Rashid Meredov said the Government of Turkmenistan pays great attention to the matters of protection and fulfillment of the rights of all the members of society, which is reflected in the National Action Plan on Human Rights for 2016-2020.
The parties discussed the issues of the national minorities and their integration into the society.
The sides considered implementation of joint activities, taking into account the global pandemic.
The participants expressed the full assistance of Turkmenistan to the set of rules issued by the OSCE High Commissioner on National Minorities for all OSCE participating States aimed at ensuring that the responses to the COVID-19 crisis take into account the necessities of all members of society, including persons belonging to national minorities, to be treated equally.
The diplomats also discussed the issues of widening cooperation in the area of education and promotion of regional multicultural dialogue.
