AKIPRESS.COM - For 10 days of July the number of burials at cemeteries in Bishkek was almost twice more compared to 10 days of July 2019, Bishkek Funeral Agency Director Askerbek Alieva told AKIpress.
46 burials were made from July 1-10, 2019 and 76 were buried from July 1-10, 2020.
"Many take the deceased to the regions to bury there," he added.
According to the nation-wide operative team for coronavirus containment, 132 people died from coronavirus and 423 from pneumonia since March.
869 burials were made at cemeteries of Bishkek for 6 months of 2020, 62 cases were coronavirus and pneumonia.
The Bishkek Funeral Agency manages 6 cemeteries.
Askerbek Aliev said the agency workers who dig graves and transport bodies are very tired. "They work day and night now. They dig graves in summer heat. They feel moral and psychological pressure. Seven workers caught virus already," he said.
Aliev denied the reports saying the Funeral Agency raised its fees for burial. "Due to overload we raised the fees for 2-3 days. The difference was transferred to the fund for Covid-19 fight. This is around 50,000-60,000 soms. Then we reinstated previous fees that are still in effect: 7,700 soms for Muslim burial and around 6,000 soms for Christian burial. The burial place is free of charge, the fees are charged only for the services," he said.
