AKIPRESS.COM - The World Health Organization today handed over personal protective gear to the Ministry of Health of Kyrgyzstan for COVID-19 response, the Health Ministry said.
The aid included 46,200 face shields, 14,600 goggles, 57,000 gowns, 150,000 KN95 respirators valued at $508,078 in total.
"These personal protective items will ensure safe and effective work of health professionals across the country. The supplies were provided in response to the request of the Kyrgyz government. The Ministry of Health will distribute personal protective equipment among more than 20 hospitals in the country," the Ministry said.
WHO has handed over more than 10 tons of personal protective equipment to support healthcare system, especially medical workers remaining on COVID-19 frontline, Dr. Tasnim Atatra, WHO Health Emergency Officer and Central Asia Coordinator and WHO Representative in Kyrgyzstan, said.
WHO has strong relations with the Ministry of Health and the Kyrgyz government. WHO will continue providing technical assistance and recommendations, she said.
Since start of COVID-19 pandemic, WHO handed over personal protective equipment, PCR test kits, consumables for collection of samples and tests.
