AKIPRESS.COM - About 24% citizens in rural areas of Tajikistan do not have access to drinking water, Jamshed Tabarzoda, general director of housing and public utilities services, told a press briefing on July 27.
"There are no difficulties with water supply in the district centers, but in rural areas there are," Tabarzoda said.
He noted that residents of Oburdon village in Mastchinsky district, Rakhimov in Temurmalik district, Zarbdor in Kulyab city, Khuroson district, some villages in Tursunzade and Shakhrinav district are experiencing a shortage of drinking water.
Investment projects on restoration of water supply systems in cities in 2 phases and others are being carried out.
Tabarzoda said that 18,000 or 20,000 residents of rural areas will have access to drinking water after these projects end.
According to him, the debt of the population, enterprises and organizations of the country for water supplement reached 77 million somoni.
"We had no problems with fundraising during first quarter of 2020. The coronavirus pandemic had a negative impact on our work," the head of the department emphasized.
Jamshed Tabarzoda also noted that prices for water use tariffs will not increase this year.
