AKIPRESS.COM - Two-week campaign on waste cleaning started on Lenin Peak (7,134 meters high), Ministry of Culture, Information and Tourism reports.
Sponsors provided $17,620 for food, living conditions, payments for guides, waste transportation to landfill jn Daroot Korgon village, bags, gloves, other special equipment.
The Kyrgyz State Mountain Climbing Club and Edinburgh Napier University (UK) conducted research in 2018-2019 and stated that ecological situation on Lenin Peak was in catastrophic condition. It's difficult to organize cleaning, because waste remains 3,600-6,300 meters above sea level where mountain climbers camps are. Professional mountain climbers are necessary to organize cleaning.
The government of Kyrgyzstan, Chon-Alai district and Kashka-Suu village area, Peak Lenin Tourist Guide Association undertook measures to prevent pollution and control ecological situation.
The Tourism Department of the Ministry of Culture with the financial aid from Switzerland, EU, Helvetas Kyrgyzstan, Aga Khan Foundation and United Nations Development Program organized cleaning.
