AKIPRESS.COM - Belarus saw the fourth day of protests against the presidential elections held on August 9, RIA Novosti reported.
Clashes between protesters and police reduced, however two traffic police officers were injured in car hits.
The first incident occurred near Yubileynaya Hotel in Minsk. A police officer was taken to the hospital, he is stable. The police officers fired shots into the driver who hit the traffic police officer while trying to detain him.
The second incident occurred in Baranovichi. The driver escaped.
Protests broke out in Minsk and other cities ahead of preliminary results announced on Monday, which showed longtime President Alexander Lukashenko had won 80 per cent of the vote, thus securing a sixth term in office. The protesters put up barricades, police dispersed them using stun grenades and water cannons. Around 6,000 people were detained.
All four opposition presidential candidates filed protests to the Central Election Commission demanding to invalidate the election results.
