AKIPRESS.COM - The Democratic Party of Tajikistan nominated its leader Saidjafar Usmonzoda for the post of president during extraordinary congress on August 23, Asia-Plus reported. Saidjafar Usmonzoda also ran in the presidential elections in 2013, but he did not get the required number of votes. Then he got 1.02% of votes.
Usmonzoda was elected a deputy of Tajikistan's Parliament in the elections of 2015 and 2020.
3 out of 7 political parties in Tajikistan have already nominated their presidential candidates - Agrarian (party leader Rustam Latifzoda), Socialist (party leader Abdukhalim Gafforov) and Democratic (party leader Saidjafar Usmonzoda) parties.
The Communist Party and the People's Democratic Party of Tajikistan are expected to nominate their candidates in September.
The opposition Social Democratic Party of Tajikistan has yet to announce a date for its convention. Rakhmatillo Zoyirov, chairman of the party, said that the party's members in cities and regions oppose the participation of Social Democrats in the presidential elections.
The presidential elections in Tajikistan will take place on October 11, 2020.
