Kyrgyzstan asks debt relief from China

AKIPRESS.COM - President Sooronbai Jeenbekov met with State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi, who arrived in Kyrgyzstan on official visit, the president's press service reported.
The views were exchanged on priority areas of Kyrgyz-Chinese bilateral and multilateral cooperation during the meeting.
President Sooronbai Jeenbekov underlined interest of Kyrgyzstan in further development of economic cooperation between two countries and prioritized agricultural, transport and road construction projects.
President Jeenbekov passed greetings to President Xi Jinping and expressed gratitude to the government of China for provided humanitarian aid, dispatch of medical professionals for fight against coronavirus infection.
Kyrgyzstan is interested in implementation of new models of cooperation in such areas as e-commerce, information tecnologies, which in turn will bolster commercial and economies ties, President Sooronbai Jeenbekov said.
In view of the adverse effects of coronavirus pandemic on macroeconomic situation, President Sooronbai Jeenbekov has asked to consider possibility of debt relief and prolongation of debt repayments for Kyrgyzstan.
Foreign Minister Wang Yi passed greetings from President Xi Jinping. He read out message of Xi Jinping, which said the bilateral relations endured the coronavirus outbreak and it is necessary to focus on strengthening of cooperation in post-pandemic period now, including as part of Belt and Road Initiative.
The sides expressed readiness for further deepening of bilateral cooperation, mutual solidarity and readiness to provide support to each other in the current situation.
