Kazakhstan joins protocol on International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights on abolition of death penalty

AKIPRESS.COM - Kazakhstan has joined the Second Optional Protocol to the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights aimed at abolition of death penalty.
The respective document was signed by Kazakhstan's Envoy to UN Kairat Umarov.
Such decision was announced by President of Kazakhstan Kasym-Jomart Tokayev in his address to the general debate of the 75th session of the UN General Assembly. He underlined Kazakhstan is committed to ensuring the fundamental right to life and human dignity.
The Second Optional Protocol to the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, aiming at the abolition of the death penalty was signed by 88 out of 193 UN members.
The parties to the protocol undertake not to use capital punishment and take all necessary measures to abolish death penalty within their jurisdiction.
