815 convicts pardoned in Turkmenistan

AKIPRESS.COM - More than 800 citizens were pardoned in Turkmenistan on the occasion of the Independence Day.
President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov signed a decree on pardoning convicted persons on occasion of the Independence Day. The decree was signed at an expanded government video conference session.
812 Turkmen citizens and 3 citizens of other states were released from further serving of the main sentence in the form of imprisonment and other additional punishment.
According to the International Centre for Prison Studies (ICPR), Turkmenistan ranks third in the world after the United States and El Salvador by the number of prisoners per 100,000 population. By the end of 2017, there were 552 prisoners per 100,000 population in Turkmen prisons, and their total number was 30,452.
