AKIPRESS.COM - Workers of the State Environmental Protection and Forestry Agency conducted a large-scale cleanup action of Lake Issyk-Kul, nature parks and reserves of Kyrgyzstan.
The main aim of the action was to draw attention of the society and youth to preservation of the unique ecosystem and biodiversity of Kyrgyzstan.
Workers of the Issyk-Kul Biosphere Territory and representatives of the Public Foundation "Clean Issyk-Kul" removed waste from the bottom and banks of the lake.
More than 1,000 tons of waste and 100 fishing nets were removed from beach in Toru-Aigyr and Bosteri villages. Divers picked up plastic bottles, plastic bags and fishing nets from the bottom of the lake.
"Fishermen abandon fishing nets after end of fishing season, since fishing nets are cheap and are widely sold. The abandoned nets are dangerous for birds and other animals," the State Environmental Protection Agency said.
A part of the collected waste was brought to Ihsan Ecogroup for recycling. The remaining waste was taken to the landfill in Balykchy.
Such cleanup actions on occasion of the World Cleanup Day were held in all nature parks and reserves of Kyrgyzstan. Over 100,000 kg of waste were removed in total.
