AKIPRESS.COM - Prime Minister of Uzbekistan Abdulla Aripov and Prime Minister of Tajikistan Kohir Rasulzoda today held talks in Dushanbe.
The talks were held in restricted attendance first, UzA reported.
Prime Minister Aripov thanked his Tajik counterpart for hospitality, adding the meeting is a good opportunity to discuss the current bilateral cooperation and its prospects.
The Prime Minister of Tajikistan noted a strong cooperation established between two countries for a short period of time, adding this visit is a continuation of the steadily growing mutually beneficial and active dialogue.
The talks were then continued at the level of delegations.
The steady growth of trade was noted. The bilateral trade grew more than 2.4 times for the past 3 years. Despite the pandemic, the bilateral trade grew by 4.3% compared to the previous year and made $317 million.
"The bilateral trade does not meet the potential of our countries," Abdulla Aripov said.
"For this reaosn, heads of our countries set the task to boost hte bilateral trade to $1 billion in the next few years. We have all opportunities for that. We have huge unused reserves," the Prime Minister of Uzbekistan said.
The talks addressed bilateral trade, prospects of cooperation in transport, energy sector, agriculture, water resources.
The protocol of the 7th meeting of the intergovernmental commission for commercial and economic cooperation was signed following the talks.
