AKIPRESS.COM - The Supreme Court of Kyrgyzstan has invalidated a 10-year prison sentence passed on Sadyr Japarov and forwarded his case for re-investigation.
Japarov was freed from prison in the night of protests of October 5-6.
The Supreme Court told AKIpress today that it considered the petition of Sadyr Japarov and his attorney Z.Bazarbekov seeking abolishment of earlier passed sentences and re-investigation of the case in connection with new arisen circumstances.
Unnamed representative of the General Prosecutor's Office asked to sustain the petition of Sadyr Japarov's attorney during the hearing.
The panel of judges sustained the petition on cancellation of earlier issued court rulings against Sadyr Japarov and forwarded the case to the General Prosecutor's Office for pre-trial investigation, the Supreme Court said.
Sadyr Japarov was sentenced to 10 years in prison by the Supreme Court of Kyrgyzstan for hostage taking by a group of persons using violence on 30 April 2019. His prison term began on 25 March 2017 and was supposed to end on 5 October 2026.
