Union of Local Self-Governments urges to respect laws in dismissal and appointment of mayors and governors of rural municipalities

AKIPRESS.COM - The Union of Local Self-Governments of Kyrgyzstan has called for respect of laws in case of dismissal and appointment of governors of rural municipalities and mayors.
Mayors are not appointed by some government agencies or local communities, it said.
They are elected by local councils. These elections are scheduled by the Central Election Commission.
"Lots of complaints are received lately about legitimacy of actions by groups of people, who force governors of rural municipalities and mayors to resign voluntarily and appoint new people in violation of the established procedure of election by local councils," the statement said.
In case rural municipality governor or mayor resigns voluntarily, their deputies should perform duties then. In case of pre-term resignation of mayor and rural municipality govenor, the Central Election Commission should schedule elections.
All procedures should be carried out in line with the law in order not to be recognized illegitimate in future, the Union stressed.
