AKIPRESS.COM - Russia suspends its financial assistance to Kyrgyzstan until the political situation stabilizes in the country and functioning of government authorities is restored, a source in the Ministry of Finance told RBK news agency.
The last time Russia reported publicly its financial aid to Kyrgyzstan was last year.
On October 5, 2020 peaceful protests against the results of October 4 parliamentary elections turned violent when the White House was stormed and clashes with police occurred injuring at least 1000 people and killing 1 civilian.
Jailed politicians, including ex-President Almazbek Atambayev and ex-Prime Minister Sapar Isakov, were freed by their supporters.
On October 6, the Central Election Commission of Kyrgyzstan annulled the parliamentary election results. Prime Minister and Speaker of Parliament resigned, new ones were elected.
President of Kyrgyzstan called the events illegal power grab attempt and imposed a state of emergency and curfew in Bishkek.
Newly appointed Prime Minister Sadyr Japarov is in talks with President on his resignation.
