Kyrgyzstan has delayed parliamentary elections

AKIPRESS.COM - Acting President Sadyr Japarov has signed the constitutional law suspending some norms of the constitutional law on presidential and parliamentary elections, the president's press service reported.
The law was passed by the Parliament of Kyrgyzstan on October 22.
Adoption of this law is explained by the current socio-political situation in the country, difficult economic situation, the press service said.
The law suspends the effect of the articles 38 and 63 of the constitutional law on presidential and parliamentary elections that regulate repeat parliamentary elections until completion of the constitutional reform. The parliamentary elections will be scheduled upon constitutional reform but not later than June 1, 2021.
The law enters into force since the date of its official publication and remains effective until completion of the constitutional reform.
Kyrgyzstan had parliamentary elections on October 4. The post-election protests on October 5 turned violent and the White House, the building shared by the Parliament and President, was taken over by protesters in early hours of October 6. The Central Election Commission invalidated the election results on October 6 and scheduled the repeat elections for December 20. The above law delayed the elections until spring.
