AKIPRESS.COM - The government of Turkmenistan is considering a major toughening of measures to prevent the coronavirus spread.
This is due to the outbreak of COVID-19 in the Dashoguz women's colony DZ-K/8, where, according to a source of Azatlyk news agency.
The situation remains difficul, Azatlyk's sources claim. To date, 500 female inmates in the colony reportedly tested positive for COVID-19.
The epidemiological situation in Lebap province, where a few people tested positive for COVID-19 10 days ago in the quarantine zone, is also worsening.
According to the source, from November 1 domestic flights might be suspended, movement between regions may be completely closed, and private mass events might be banned.
On October 16, RFE/RL reported citing informed sources that a "very big" outbreak thought to be COVID-19 has struck a women's prison in northern Turkmenistan. Relatives in Ashgabat confirmed to RFE/RL the deaths of at least three inmates at the DZ-K/8 correctional facility for women in the Dashoguz region near the border with Uzbekistan.
