AKIPRESS.COM - US dollar exchange rate against the som increased to 83.5 in Bishkek exchange offices as of 10:10 a.m. on November 3.
At 8:30 a.m., the exchange rate ranged between 82.9 - 83.2 soms per $1.
On November 2, the National Bank commented on the US dollar appreciation.
"In recent days, the demand for foreign currency is higher than supply, which led to the increase in the exchange rate formed on the background of external factors such a decline in commodity prices, repeated COVID-19 restrictions in a number of countries and the negative forecast for global economy, as well as the global tendency of the U.S. dollar appreciation including in countries-trade partners of the Kyrgyz Republic," the regulator said.
Since the beginning of 2020 to November 3, the official exchange rate of the U.S. dollar against the som increased by 17.68% from 69.5 to 81.8 soms per one dollar. From the beginning of 2020 to the present day, in order to smooth sharp fluctuations in the exchange rate, the National Bank has sold $355.8 million, the NBKR said.
