Kyrgyzstan to have parliamentary elections no later than May - Japarov

AKIPRESS.COM - The parliamentary elections will be held in Kyrgyzstan no later than May, acting President, Prime Minister Sadyr Japarov said at the meeting with population in Osh.
Japarov said the repeat parliamentary elections were postponed in connection with demand of people to cancel the party system.
"We were to hold the repeat parliamentary elections in December, but I seriously thought about the elections. Since people demand to cancel the party system, overthrow power because of that, we should not ignore this. This is why the next day we held consultations with leaders of parliamentary factions and passed the amendments delaying the repeat elections. We need to carry out the constitutional reform, to change the system and hold parliamentary elections in March-April, May the latest," Japarov said.
He pledged the elections will be held without vote buying and abuse of government resources.
"The law clearly says bote buying and selling may lead to 2.5 year prison sentence. We will task heads of local administrations to strictly control the process to prevent violations," Japarov said.
Kyrgyzstan had the parliamentary elections on October 4. The election results were annulled by the Central Election Commission following post-election protests.
