AKIPRESS.COM - Parliament Speaker Kanat Isaev said at the session of the Parliament of Kyrgyzstan today that he resigned.
"After resignation of the President, the presidential powers were transferred to me as Speaker, but since the term of the Parliament of the 6th convocation expires, to avoid conflicts and for the sake of stabilization of the situation, I refused to assume presidential duties. These duties were passed to Sadyr Japarov and this way Sadyr Japarov got extensive power leverages. He has all powers now to address all arising problems," Isaev said.
Since Sadyr Japarov plans to run in presidential elections, he may not remain in office of the Prime Minister and acting President, Isaev added.
"Then he should pass presidential powers to the Parliament Speaker. The Parliament has extended the term of its work now, for this reason the Speaker may perform presidential duties in full," Isaev said.
Isaev said Kyrgyzstan party nominates him as candidate for President and for this reason he decided to resign.
"I can't perform duties of the President and Speaker. The Prime Minister can't perform presidential duties either, the First Deputy Prime Minister can't do this, since he is not head of the government," Isaev said.
Isaev said the decision to resign was made to avoid destabilization of the situation.
Kanat Isaev became Speaker of the Parliament of Kyrgyzstan on October 13, 2020.
