AKIPRESS.COM - Kyrgyzstan started importing electricity from Kazakhstan, said Chairman of the State Committee for Industry, Energy and Subsoil Use Jyrgalbek Sagynbayev at a press conference in Bishkek on November 20.
Government signed a contract with the Kazakh side to import 500 million kWh of electricity in order to save water in Toktogul hydroelectric power plant, he said.
"Yesterday I talked to the Kazakh Minister of Energy. We have an agreement, and we are already receiving electricity under the contract. I think that during this period we need to buy this electricity. Why? Because we are neighboring countries, we always provide them with electricity when it is difficult for them, and when we have water shortages we buy from them," he said.
