AKIPRESS.COM - Importing meat from Belarus would bring the price of meat to 300 soms per kilo, but Kyrgyzstan would lose both its currency and meat market, said Minister of Agriculture Tilek Toktogaziyev during the parliamentary session.
In 2020, livestock export increased by 10 times from 738 to 8,000 head of cattle, mostly the breeding cattle.
"If we do not ban export of the breeding cattle, we will lose them. In 4-5 years we think that this will be a strategically important decision," he said.
The Government of Kyrgyzstan introduced a temporary ban on export of some agricultural goods from the Kyrgyz Republic outside the Eurasian Economic Union on November 19.
Kyrgyzstan temporarily banned (for 6 months) export of horses, cattle, sheep and goats, poultry (chicken, ducks, geese, turkeys), wheat, barley, corn, rice, wheat flour, vegetable oil, sugar, chicken eggs, iodized salt, and fodder.
The ban of export of agricultural products was heavily criticized by the MPs.
