Kyrgyz language proposed to be kept in Constitution as only official language and language of interethnic communication

AKIPRESS.COM - Public figure Sadirdin Toraliev, member of the constitutional convention, today suggested to keep Kyrgyz language as the state language in Constitution. He suggested development of other languages with other laws.
"My children were instructed in Russian language, they speak Russian with their mother. People speak Russian in public transport as well. The Russian language has the status of official language in Kyrgyzstan. We need Russian language. We have achieved a lot with Russian. We need English as well," he said.
The Kyrgyz language should be kept only as the state and interethnic communication language in the Constitution, he said. "60% of the world population speak English. We got accustomed to Russian and remain stuck to it. This is wrong. We may lose our mother tongue," he said.
"My suggestion is to keep only Kyrgyz language in the Constitution. We will develop other languages using other laws," he said.
