AKIPRESS.COM - Former Minister of Education and Science of Kyrgyzstan Kanybek Osmonaliev suggested to make secondary education compulsory.
"All Europe is moving towards this. Japan plans to make higher education compulsory," the ex-Minister said at the meeting of the constitutional convention today.
The current Constitution of Kyrgyzstan says each citizen has right to education, general education (primary and middle school from 1 to 9th grades) is compulsory.
"This is the question of principle. Of course, financing issue and other issues will arise. But some children stop studying after finishing 9th grade of school. If we make secondary education compulsory, both schools and parents will have to meet this requirement," Osmonaliev said.
