AKIPRESS.COM - Arslanbek Maliev decided not to run in the snap presidential elections scheduled for January 10, 2021.
"I decided to withdraw my candidacy in favor of Sadyr Japarov," he told a press conference today.
Maliev also voiced his suggestions about the constitutional changes. He suggested to change the name of Kyrgyzstan to Kyrgyzjer meaning the land of Kyrgyz people, to introduce kurultay (assembly), to change the flag.
He said kurultay should become one of the chambers of the Parliament. The number of MPs should be reduced from 120 to 90. Half of them should be elected under majoritarian system and another half under proportional system.
Arslanbek Maliev ran in 2017 presidential elections and gained 1,621 votes or 0.1%.
