AKIPRESS.COM - Foreign Minister Ruslan Kazakbaev met with UN Resident Coordinator Ozonnia Ojielo on December 4.
The current constitutional reform and possible UN assistance to Kyrgyzstan were in focus of discussions.
Foreign Minister Kazakbaev thanked UN agencies for continuous support and assistance offered in implementation of constitutional reform. The Foreign Minister pledged Kyrgyzstan will remain committed to obligations undertaken under international agreements and treaties concerning protection of human rights, rule of law and further democratization.
The referendum on form of government, adoption of the Constitution, presidential and parliamentary elections are planned in the next few months, Foreign Minister Kazakbaev said and asked technical assistance from UN.
The UN Resident Coordinator said development of the new draft of Constitution is the sovereign right of people and the state, noting importance of enshrinement of provisions on human rights and freedoms at the same time.
Ozonnia Ojielo noted the favorable conditions in place for discussion of constitutional changes with broad participation of various groups of society.
The UN Resident Coordinator noted readiness of UN to provide support to Kyrgyzstan in enhancement of quality of documents developed as part of the constitutional reform.
