Kyrgyzstan's internal passports to show ethnicity

AKIPRESS.COM - The ethnic origin will be specified in the internal passports of Kyrgyzstan, known as ID cards.
The respective order was signed by acting Prime Minister and First Deputy Prime Minister Artem Novikov, the government's press service reported.
The move is explained with the decision of the Constitutional Chamber of the Supreme Court.
"The Constitutional Chamber of the Supreme Court found exclusion of the ethnic origin feature in the ID cards of 2017 series as approved by the Kyrgyz government earlier contradictory to the article 38 of the Constitution of the Kyrgyz Republic. The right of each citizen to free specification of ethnicity was violated," the government's press service said.
Citizens of Kyrgyzstan may specify their ethnicity in ID cards if they wish so.
