AKIPRESS.COM - Parliament of Kyrgyzstan on December 16 ratified the Statute of the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) signed at the INRENA Constituent Conference on January 26, 2009 in Bonn. MP Abdyvakhap Nurbaev said Kyrgyzstan's accession to IRENA will expand the range of cooperation and exchange of experience with other countries in the development of renewable energy sources, introduction of advanced technologies and attracting investment in renewable energy.
The International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) is an intergovernmental organization that supports countries in their transition to a sustainable energy future, and serves as the principal platform for international cooperation on renewable energy. IRENA promotes the widespread adoption and sustainable use of all forms of renewable energy, including bioenergy, geothermal, hydropower, ocean, solar and wind energy, in the pursuit of sustainable development, energy access, energy security and low-carbon economic growth and prosperity.
