AKIPRESS.COM - Kyrgyzstan has adopted the preventive immunization program for 2020-2024. The respective resolution of the government of December 16 was signed by acting Prime Minister Artem Novikov.
The program approves the action plan and matrix of indicators for its monitoring and evaluation.
The current immunization program includes vaccines against 12 vaccine preventable diseases: tuberculosis, poliomyelitis, viral hepatitis B, diphtheria, tetanus, whooping cough, hemophilus influenza type b, pneumococcal infection, rotavirus infection, measles, parotitis and rubella.
Introduction of human papillomavirus vaccines against cervical cancer is planned since 2022.
Regular immunization is cost-effective public health strategy followed globally, which allows to drastically reduce child morbidity, fatality and disability rates compared to other medical interventions.
Vaccination in combination with an effective system of epidemiological surveillance of vaccine preventable infections contributed to decrease in morbidity and mortality from vaccine-preventable infections, including elimination of poliomyelitis, absence of tuberculous meningitis and tetanus in newborns. Over the past 9 years the incidence of diphtheria and whooping cough dropped to 2 cases per 100,000, the incidence of parotitis fell to 4 cases per 100,000.
73% of target population for immunization program are children aged betwee 0 to 16 years, 11% of them are newborns and infants.
