ID cards will be issued primarily to citizens reaching 16 years, to citizens who lost their passports or whose passports expired, to those willing to change their names or ethnicity until December 31, 2022.
Replacement of biometric passports with ID cards will become mandatory since Januar 1, 2023.
The ID cards will be valid for 10 years and can be used only on the territory of Uzbekistan. Their replacement will last until 1 January 2030.
International travel will be possible only with international biometric passports since January 1, 2021.
Uzbekistan planned to start replacement of internal passports with national ID cards since July 2018. The process was postponed at the request of the Interior Ministry and line agencies due to active introduction of international travel biometric passports.
