AKIPRESS.COM - Each pregnant woman registered with medical facilities will be tested for HIV infection twice, AIDS Center Director Umutkan Chokmorova said.
The respective order was signed in 2020, she said.
The pregnant women will be tested for HIV when they just visit a medical facility for the first time and then in the third trimester.
"Such decision was made in connection with a small growth of HIV infection among pregnant women. Since they were tested only in the first trimester, but they might contract HIV in later months," Umutkan Chokmorova explained.
Rapid tests for HIV infection are also available in maternity hospitals, she said.
"If a woman was not tested for HIV before, she would be able to test her HIV status in the maternity hospital," she added.
