AKIPRESS.COM - It is impossible to stop smog over Bishkek now, but there are only two solutions of this problem, acting mayor Balbak Tulobaev said in comments about air pollution in the capital.
"This is transition to use of gas for heating and purchase of quality coal. It is necessary to switch the Bishkek combined heat and power plant from coal burning to gas. This would allow to reduce air pollution by 50-60%," he said.
Schools and boiler houses will be switched from coal burning to gas in future as well. "This way we will be able to prevent smog next year," he suggested.
"We won't buy coal from Kara-Keche coal field. We will need to buy quality coal next year. We will fine owners of vehicles without catalytic converters," the acting mayor said.
