AKIPRESS.COM - Tajikistan will cut off power in rural areas since 11.00 p.m. of January 5 and until 6.00 a.m., Asia-Plus reported with reference to a source in the Tajik government.
Electricity is rationed due to a low level of water in the reservoir of the Nurek hydropower plant - 4 meters less than in the previous year.
The period of electricity rationing was not specified.
Tajikistan stopped electricity exports to the neighboring countries, the source said.
Residents of rural areas of the country complained about frequent and long blackouts since autumn: they had electricity just 4-6 hours a day. The Barqi Tochik energy holding denied electricity rationing at that time and explained the situation with repair of substations and transmission networks.
Reliable electricity supplies were restored since December 10 in all parts of the country.
Experts say Tajikistan does not have enough hydropower resources to pass winter and in such situation electricity rationing is compulsory measure.
