Tajikistan applies for 2 million doses of coronavirus vaccine through COVAX facility

AKIPRESS.COM - The Ministry of Health and Social Security of Tajikistan applied for 2 million doses of coronavirus vaccine through COVAX global initiative.
Medical workers, teachers, people above 50 years and those with chronic non-communicable diseases will be vaccinated first, Sanitary and Epidemiological Safety Department Chief Navruz Jafarov said in an interview with the Tajik service of RFE/RL.
Tajikistan joined COVAX global facility at the end of 2020.
The application for 2 million doses of coronavirus vaccine will be considered by COVAX commission and it is unknown yet what vaccine the country may receive, the official said.
In case the requested amount of vaccine doses is approved, 20% of country population may be vaccinated.
According to WHO, around 50 countries started mass vaccination against coronavirus infection. 38 of them are high income countries.
The total number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Tajikistan made 13,308. 90 people died.
