AKIPRESS.COM - Permanent Representative of Kyrgyzstan to UN Mirgul Moldoisaeva delivered speech at the briefing of UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres on priorities of his work for 2021 on behalf of the Friends of Mountainous Countries Group.
Ambassador Moldoisaeva spoke on behalf of 25 countries. She underlined the role of mountainous ecosystems in supplying natural resources for the world and the global ecological balance.
She also noted vulnerability of the UN mountainous countries to the negative effects of climate change and highlighted importance of a broad international cooperation with UN involvement. She urged the UN Secretary General to continue an active work on environmental protection, paying attention to challenges faced by the mountainous countries trying to achieve the sustainable development goals, as well as measures of protection of fragile mountainous ecosystems amid ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
Ambassador Moldoisaeva expressed support to activities of the UN Secretary General in environmental protection and stressed readiness of the Friends of Mountainous Countries Group to continue the efforts for development of wide international cooperation for advancement of sustainable mountainous cooperation principles.
UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres agreed on important role of mountains in all aspects of preservation and restoration of the environment. He underlined Kyrgyzstan has right to share concerns and problems of mountainous UN member states. He also took a note of beautiful mountainous terrain of the Kyrgyz Republic he saw during his visits to the country.
