AKIPRESS.COM - Government of Kyrgyzstan decided to shut down the State Service for Combating Economic Crimes (financial police), the relevant decree was signed by Prime Minister Ulukbek Maripov on March 5. The official size of the shadow economy is 130 billion soms or 23.6% of GDP, while independent experts estimate it at 24-43% of GDP, which shows the inefficiency of the financial police job.
Moreover the independent experts and business community complain on the activities of the financial police accusing them of corruption and unauthorized interference in business activities.
According to the laws, this body was supposed to ensure economic security and protect rights and interests of businesses.
However, today the financial police perform only punitive functions, the government said in a statement.
