AKIPRESS.COM - Healthcare and education are two priority areas for Kyrgyzstan's further development, former Kyrgyz President Roza Otunbayeva said on March 10 at women leadership forum.
If the country keeps sliding down in these two directions, it will be the end of the status quo it got before the Soviet Union collapsed, she said.
"It's very important for us today to support doctors, teachers, to find those key segments in those areas in order to bring the country forward. We have to say thank you to the doctors, to the medical students, to all the medical professionals who pulled us out and continue to pull us out of this nightmare during the pandemic. We saw women doing it," she said.
According to Otunbayeva, Kyrgyzstan today has a large shortage of doctors, so it is important to support them during such difficult times.
She also added that in neighboring countries, between 27% and 30% of parliament are women, while in Kyrgyzstan, the number of women in parliament is as high as 17%.
