AKIPRESS.COM - A group of U.S. experts arrived in Uzbekistan on March 15 for monitoring of safe functioning of hydropower facilities, Dunyo news agency reported. Following the agreements reached with U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), American experts together with representatives of the Ministry of Water Resources, Uzbek hydropower JSC and other line agencies will assess condition of Gissarak and Tupalang dams in Kashkadarya and Surkhandarya regions.
Experts will study physical condition of facilities, will analyze potential risks of failure in their operation.
USACE experts earlier delivered online training for Uzbek specialists on monitoring of safety of dams.
The partial collapse of wall of the Sardoba water reservoir occured on May 1, 2020. According to official reports, nearby houses and fields were flooded. 2,570 houses and 76 apartment blocks were destroyed. Thousands of people were displaced.
17 people stood before trial, including representatives of the contractors, designer of the project, officials of the Ministry of Water Resources. 7 defendants were taken into custody.
Sadroba dam collapse caused damage of more than $4.3 million. A part of the caused damage was reimbursed by the defendants.
The Sardoba trial is held behind the closed doors as the materials of the case were classidied, the Supreme Court of Uzbekistan said.
