AKIPRESS.COM - The information on air quality in Bishkek became accessible. The air quality information is obtained from sensors provided by the Asian Development Bank earlier.
The data published on the websites of the Kyrgyz Meteorological Office and Almaty-Bishkek Economic Corridor (www.almaty-bishkek.org) allow to determine the local air pollutants, to compare air pollution effects for health. The map displays concentration of particulate matters in comparison to air quality index.
The Asian Development Bank handed over 50 air quality sensors to the Meteorogological Office in December 2020 from $90,000 grant. Kyrgyzstan has become the first country in Central Asia that received such sensors.
The sensors were installed on power poles in Bishkek. The obtained data is used by the Met Office as official and reliable statistical information on air quality in the country.
"Openness and accessibility of results of air quality monitoring is one of priority areas of work of the Kyrgyz Meteorological Office, which was made possible due to Clarity Node-S sensors provided by the Asian Development Bank and development of the interactive map. The map improves perception of information by users, allows to collect statistics and reveal pattens," Met Office' Environmental Pollution Monitoring Department Chief Ludmila Nishanbaeva said.
