AKIPRESS.COM - 600,000 doses of AstraZeneca coronavirus vaccine produced in India (CoviShield) for almost $2 million will arrive on March 17 in Tashkent.
Uzbekistan will receive vaccines through COVAX program for free. UNICEF will cover transportation costs, the Sanitary and Epidemiological Well-Being and Public Health Service reported.
It was announced earlier Uzbekistan would receive 2.64 million doses of AstraZeneca vaccine through COVAX program. 35-40% of doses are expected to be delivered in the first quarter of 2021. The remaining doses will be delivered since the second quarter upon their production and distribution.
The Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine is being manufactured locally by the Serum Institute of India, the world's largest vaccine manufacturer.
The preliminary results of the third phase of trials were published in December 2020. The vaccine demonstrated efficacy rate of 70.4%. Some 11,636 volunteers particiated in the trial.
It was reported that Denmark, Norway, Iceland, Italy, Germany, France, Spain and Bulgaris stopped use of AstraZeneca vaccine after reported thrombosis cases.
