Uzbekistan links surge in coronavirus cases among children with UK variant

AKIPRESS.COM - Surge in coronavirus cases among children in Uzbekistan is linked with spread of UK variant, Nurmat Atabekov, Deputy Director of Sanitary and Epidemiological Well-Being and Public Health Service, said.
"The number of coronavirus cases is growing among children. If the share of children with coronavirus infection among children made 5-7% last year, now this share makes 25%. For this reason some schools in Tashkent switched to online learning. Schools have spring break now and we plan to disrupt the chain of COVID-19 spread among children. If the situation does not change to the better, we will consider prolongation of spring break," Nurmat Atabekov stated.
The country is making 15,000-18,000 PCR tests for coronavirus infection every day, he added.
"Of course, the more tests are made, more coronavirus cases are detected. We increase the volume of testing to detect infected people," he stressed.
