AKIPRESS.COM - Turkmenistan has joined the statement of the CIS countries against use of sanctions. The document dated of March 22 is published on the webite of the Russian Foreign Ministry. The CIS countries express "serious concerns about frequented introduction of unilateral compulsion measures not drawn on international law, including ecoonomic measures, against other states."
The statement emphasizes "declaration of sanctions is prerogative of the UN Security Council on the basis of the Chapter VII of the UN Charter." The authors of the statement underline "importance of principle of non-intervention into internal affairs of sovereign states."
It is emphasized that this principle does not allow "any interference with the aim of overthrowing legitimate governments, as well as the extraterritorial application of national law by states in violation of international law."
In addition to the Foreign Ministers of Russia and Turkmenistan, the statement was signed by the Foreign Ministers of Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan.
All these states, except for Turkmenistan, are CIS states. Turkmenistan is associated member of the CIS. Azerbaijan and Moldova did not sign the statement.
